Mini vs The Whole Shebang

Doesn’t that sound like the title of an awesome adventure story? Okay, I’m putting the chai down. Ha! I’m talking about this kind of mini though, not this one. Yes- mini photography sessions! Yay- I hear you scream!! I know, you’re excited. 😀

As you may know (ahem, read the post before this one)… I’m offering three days of mini sessions (October 30th is all about Halloween and Nov 5th and 6th are all about you! Hahaha. They’re all about you!) this year! I’ve had a few people ask me how they would know whether a mini session is best for them or if it would be better to go with a full session… so here’s my response:

Mini sessions are great for folks who want to see if my style (or boutique photography in general) suits them. It’s a minimal investment but at the end of it you still get incredible, custom imagery that is literally all about you. If you’ve only ever had the ‘sit over there and smile’ kind of session, this would be a great way to check out how much fun, beauty and artistry I pour into capturing spontaneous moments of connection between you and your family in a relaxed and natural environment. It may also be a good fit if you think your kids (or you!) might really struggle with a session longer than 30 minutes. It’s also a great way to bookend your yearly full session… especially if you have a family with small kids or babies… because they grow SO fast, and you know you want to have in print what they’re like and what they’re doing RIGHT now.

Full sessions provide a much more custom experience however since we’ll talk before hand about what you’re wanting to do with the images (wall art in your home? an album?) and we’ll have the time we need to make sure that we get a range of emotions and action in a variety of spots with as many clothing changes as you wish. We can create a theme or setting for the session and have time to play and get comfortable while capturing a large and varied range of images you can choose from. If you (or your kids) take a while to warm up, a full session may be better for you as well so that you’ve got a chance to relax and we can minimise the ‘deer in headlights’ expressions. 😀 Lastly, if you’re all about getting a slice of your daily life captured, definitely go with a full or lifestyle session! I’m excited to come over!

2011 Fall Mini Sessions!! With a twist!

Hey ho! It’s that time of year again… the mornings are chilly and bright, there’s a blanket of fog and mist that the sun has to throw off each day for a bit of midday warmth before it wanes and the brisk, autumn air turns colder again. For someone who despises the cold, it surprises even me that autumn is a season I thoroughly enjoy. Part of it is that hot chocolate seems that much more acceptable as a daily beverage but another part of it is the crunchy leaves and puddles to wade through and the beautiful colours blooming for one final, glorious farewell before winter comes.

So… what do you say? Shall we get together and do a quick session before the holidays come?

Three days of holiday mini sessions this year… at three different locations that I love! I’m really excited to be offering three this year and hope this means we can get you somewhere you can completely relax and be yourselves in! If you’d rather have me all to yourself for a full session and want those images to use for the holidays, then let’s get that session done by mid-November. You know how crazy it gets during the holidays people!

Okay, on to the details! Are you ready? Because this year, the first mini-sessions  I’m excited to offer are for a themed day!! We’re doing a spooky ode to Halloween! People keep telling me I’m too old to get excited about Halloween but we didn’t celebrate it where I grew up, guys! Cut me some slack and help me enjoy it! So, if you’ve got a costume you’re super proud of making (or buying!! Ha!!) then let’s get it memorialized for eternity! 😀

😀

The weekend after that, we’re having our more sedate (ha!) fall mini photography sessions, at two marvelous locations… on Saturday we’ll be at Alvarado Park in Richmond…. one of my absolute favourite locations of all time! It’s a beautiful park and just perfect for kids to run around in… if you love to walk, hike, picnic, commune with nature, this’ll be the spot for you! The other location is more urban and in the warehouse district of Berkeley. Lots of colour and texture to add some chutspah to this year’s holiday cards! 😀

A mother’s pride and joy – family session at Alvarado Park

I met Dana when I was eight months pregnant. I walked into Waddle & Swaddle on their last open night, a packing party of sorts since the store was closing. I made myself comfortable in an empty armchair and struck up a conversation with this vibrant, forthright, open woman who was so easy to connect with and came bearing food! I knew immediately that we’d be friends.

Here we are a few years later and as her sons were graduating and the grandparents were here to witness this milestone, it seemed like a good time to get a few frames of them all together…

Remember Tommy?

And Aidan?

Another side to these two:

I love…

the silly faces in the second shot. And that the grandparents did not participate. Makes me laugh every time I look at it.
the pride and joy beaming out of Dana in that third frame. Pulls at my heartstrings. Love.
Dana and her mum looking at each other.
the boys laughing in one frame while their feet wrestle in the next one.
Dana’s beautiful eyes. Which she’s so kindly shared with her boys. Mama’s eyes. They see everything. Ha!

Rebecca, Seth & Miles – a family session at Point Pinole!

You’ve no doubt heard me rave and rave about how much I love Point Pinole. So you can imagine how excited I was to photograph this beautiful family there. They were absolutely perfect for it… and I knew they would be since we’d had several playdates there already!! 😀

You remember this one, right?

Jump!

A family that jumps together, laughs together… that’s how the saying goes, right? 😀

Teaser from an amazing session at, you guessed it, Point Pinole. It’s my absolute favourite regional park and an awesome location for family portraits! I love this family and had such a blast capturing their connection during a mellow hike around the park.

Rossi Family

I met MaryKate through my friend Helen, who started her own business as an independent bookseller with Barefoot Books. Have you heard of them? AWESOME books for kids. I love the artwork and that the stories are not only entertaining and educational but also socially and environmentally conscious. Anyway, I was excited to support another mama business by donating a raffle prize of a mini-session. MaryKate drew the lucky ticket and won the prize so I got to meet her family and photograph them. Lucky for me, her family was super sweet and they lived just a couple streets away from me! You’ve got to love a commute like that!

Thank you so much for having me over at your home! I so enjoyed meeting you all and photographing you was delightful! Hope you enjoy your images!!
